Jingle Sticks! More Recycling!

Thank you to our local businesses that provided us with materials for this project; also to teacher Mr. Johnson for cutting our wood sticks from scrap. The students worked hard spraypainting, punching holes, measuring, and tapping caps into a jingly musical instrument. It was fun!

More Rag Rug Pictures.

Our ragrugs are a work in progress! Here are a few--some students are tying edges first, some tie randomly, and yet others tie in stripes or blotches...

Recycled Baby Books or Personal Journals.

After a bit of sanding, students started painting background for their collaged art book. We sanded them a bit so that the paint wouldn't peel back off the slick surface.
Lace doilies, glitter, magazine pics, sparkly paints and glues, markers, crayons, printed material--all of these will be incorporated into this fun little project!

Here are some beginning stages:

Tech Life Class Construction

Take a look at the small scale home the students are building in Mr. Johnson's class across the hall from the art room. Very awesome--great way to teach math skills too!

Recycle: Rag Shag Rugs

Students in Life Explore tore strips of clean old clothing/curtains to hook into rugs. It is a very time-consuming project--here are some pics.

Recycling in Life Class: Art Room--Ghillie Suits

Students in Life Class (Explore) are using recycled old fabric/clothes to make paintball suits--2 jackets and 2 pants.
They are learning how to thread a needle, take stitches, loop and tie rags, meet new friends, and work together in small groups! They have worked extremely hard and kept each other on task, taking turns and working well.

A ghillie suit is a type of camouflage outfit designed to resemble heavy foliage. Typically, it is a net or cloth garment covered in loose strips of cloth or twine, sometimes even made to look like leaves and twigs. People may wear a ghillie suit to blend into their surroundings when they feel it is important for them to camouflage and hide themselves from paintball enemies or their targets. The suit gives the wearer's outline a three-dimensional breakup, rather than a linear one.
