Tangled Yarn= How to Make Pompoms!

Everyone seemed to enjoy making these! I was about ready to toss a big bird nest of yarn, but now the class knows how to make pompoms successfully.

Day of the Dead Suit

We've been 'recycling' an old suit into a suit suitable for the Spanish class to use on November 1st--Day of the Dead. Of course we also incorporated some "Beetlejuice" stripes to make it more lively!

Students are painting an old black suit with some leftover house paint--and recycling it into a wearable "Day of the Dead" suit to share with Spanish class!
Will be adding photos as soon as our site is unblocked again!

August 2010: Recycled Art: Prints!

Students are using old maps and old sheet music that has been torn up and glued back together, as backgrounds for printmaking.
Some of them are currently printing green apple halves with red ink!
Next time they will try cutting up meat trays for another type of print.

Paper Mache Sailboats*

Students have been using cereal boxes, buttons, old fabric, etc to construct some paper mache sailboats. Stitching cloth to a wooden skewer with a needle and thread proved rather difficult for some of them but they have prevailed. Here are some pics--painting some of their boats... more to come!

Even more mittens!

Sweater Mittens!

Students traced their hand to cut out mitten shapes from old, washed sweaters. They also learned practical applications with a needle--how to thread a needle with thread, embroidery floss, and yarn (although some of them still are unsure of where and how to tie the knot)! We practiced sewing on a button, then several types of stitches. The majority of them seemed to have a good time, using extra scraps for sweater purses. Yarn pompom making was also popular!
